The H Media Hub

The H Editorial Team is an ever-expanding team of budding student reporters here at Highfields School. Since the launch of the Young Journalists project in 2016, where a small group of Year 9 students pioneered a new school newspaper, The H, we have seen an incredible expansion of the students' talents. The dynamic flair of the students’ ability to work both independently and collaboratively has resulted in highly-engaging features that have covered a broad range of current social and political topics, as well as showcasing the many talents and successes of Highfields’ students. With regular recruitment taking place annually, the team has had contributions from over 30 students in the last three years.

In 2017, the journalistic ambitions of the team saw the successful launch of the school's exciting news channel, HTV,  coordinated by Mr Cooper and Miss Banks. Students worked diligently in the HTV's newsroom, a newly refurbished Film Studio on the Innovations floor, to produce a weekly episode featuring news and sports stories from across the school whilst also including newsworthy feature pieces from the wider world.

This year, a number of long-standing members of The H Editorial Team in Year 12 launched a series of GCSE English revision podcasts to support Year 11 students with their exam preparations before the exams were cancelled due to the current Coronavirus pandemic. Making the most of the time in lockdown, the students have decided to regroup to host a series of podcasts exploring a range of topics.

Students meet at the start of each week via Microsoft Teams to discuss and plan their podcast sessions before they are recorded and edited by Miss Banks and uploaded to the school's YouTube Channel. Each series will contain five 30-45 minute podcast that will be published fortnightly.

“ It has been truly impressive to see students enjoying the opportunity to have a voice and be heard. Students that have continued to show independence, dedication and commitment to The H newspaper, and now these podcasts, really does demonstrate the great level of resilience our students at Highfields have built over the years.”
