Gaming

Gaming is hugely popular with young people, and most games are online, or incorporate an online element. The most popular exam of this is Fortnite, which is a free to play game and players join online worlds full of players from all across the globe.

Many risks are the same as Social Media and Phone use, as young people could be subjected to inappropriate material, potential groomers and become addicted.

What can you do

  • Make sure your child is playing appropriate games for their age, the rating will be available on the box, in the product details for downloaded games, or online information.

  • Show an active interest in the game they are playing. Get them to play in a communal room, and see if you can play with them.

  • Set time limits. The games can be a great way to relax and socialise with friends, but can quickly become time consuming.

  • Help them understand risks of playing and talking to people they don’t know

  • Set parental or family control settings on the games and consoles
