Students jumping for joy with trampolining success

Students are jumping for joy after bagging medals in a trampolining tournament.

Highfields hosted the annual Wolverhampton School Trampolining Competition, which saw more than 60 students from city schools competing.

Competitors, all from Years 7-9, were judged in three categories - beginner, intermediate and advanced - by trained Sixth Form students who volunteered their time.

Students from Highfields won four out of a possible nine medals, including Leah Roberts, who won advanced gold; Josie Annable, who took advanced silver; Abigail Binder, who took silver in the beginner category and Jasmine Mehat, who won the beginner bronze medal. Abigail Binder was also awarded the ‘best newcomer’ prize.

P.E teacher, Miss G.Robinson, said: “Determined to build on last year’s success, we trained vigorously in the run up to the competition and all the hard work was definitely worth it.

“Competition this year was exceptionally high and it was fantastic to see so many talented pupils taking part from across the borough.

“I was very proud of how our students conducted themselves in such a sportsmanlike manner. They were a credit to themselves and the school, meaning it was a pleasure organising such a rewarding competition for them.

“Our trampoliners are back to training and look forward to the competition growing again next year.”
