Gymnasts somersault their way to tournament success

Gymnasts from Highfields somersaulted their way to the podium with a successful performance in the Wolverhampton Secondary School City Gymnastics Tournament.

Highfields has hosted the tournament for the past four years and our gymnasts impressed judges from Wolverhampton Gymnastics Club with their turns and tumbles to win a number of accolades in the competition.

Our gymnasts practice every Thursday evening under the guidance of gymnastics coach Pat Swindell and they put their skills to the test in the tournament when they competed against 11 secondary schools from the city.

Mr C.Moody, Highfields’ Director of Sport, said: “The gymnasts each performed a floor and vault routine individually and then the scores were put together for overall team prizes.

“We hire gymnastics coach Pat Swindell to come into school every Thursday and she trains them from having absolutely no experience or outside training at all.

“Our gymnasts did incredibly well and everybody who competed should be very proud of what they achieved.”

Our winners: Ella Hudson, joint 3rd place: Beginners Floor; Jessica Drew, 1st place: Novice Vault and Combined; Tasha Bagria, joint 2nd place: Novice Vault; Louise Saul Braddock, joint 2nd place: Novice Vault. Overall 2nd place for the team.
